Sustainability
(1) The Green Mark Scheme was launched in January 2005 by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore to steer the construction industry in Singapore in the direction
of environment-friendly buildings. It is essentially a benchmarking scheme that incorporates global recognised best practices in environmental design and performance.
(2) The Green Globe Certifcation Standard is a structured assessment of the sustainability performance of travel and tourism businesses. It comprises 337 compliance indicators
applied to 41 individual sustainability criteria and is based on a number of international standards and agreements. A third-party independent auditor is appointed to work with
clients on-site. The international standard ISO 19011 provides guidance on the management of audit programs, the conduct of internal and external management systems as
well as the competence and evaluation of auditors.
CDLHT and Sustainability
Having a sizeable investment portfolio of hotel properties, CDLHT is aware of the impact of its business on the
environment and society and recognises that investors these days do not regard fnancial success as the sole indicator of
performance. To add value to stakeholders including not only Security Holders but also the societies and environment
in which H-REIT operates (noting that HBT is currently dormant), the H-REIT Manager adopts a balanced approach
to sustainability, keeping in mind CDLHT’s objectives and the available resources.
Sustainability in H-REIT’s Hotel Properties
H-REIT leases its hotel properties to master lessees, which operate the respective hotels or maintain management
agreements with hotel operators. The H-REIT Manager therefore works with professional hotel operators and lessees
and accordingly adopts a co-operative rather than prescriptive approach to sustainability in its hotels.
H-REIT is appreciative of the efforts made by its hotel operators in the feld of sustainability. Its hotels proactively
take steps to reduce water and energy consumption, minimise waste and carbon emissions and endeavour to adopt
internationally-recognised best practices in environmental management.
With the co-operation and efforts of its environmentally-conscious lessees and hotel operators, H-REIT’s hotel
properties have, in the recent years, won the following notable environmental accolades:
